What is a CSA?
Community Supported Agriculture, CSA, a community of people investing in a produce share from a local farm. Paid upfront, the funds cover the costs of seeds, planting and harvesting. Each share receives a weekly box packed with just-picked seasonal produce. Traditional CSAs programs last 16 weeks and range from $500 to $1200 per year. The produce that comes from a CSA is a better value than if someone were to purchase the same items at a farmer’s market or even at a local grocery store.
The CSA model is great at keeping food local and supporting the livelihood of local farmers. However, the upfront investment can be too high for many people. Additionally, this farm to family approach does not allow for people to pay with EBT.
How is the 21 Acres Harvest Share Program Different than a Traditional CSA?
Participants will receive a weekly share of chemical-free produce from local sustainable farms, including the 21 Acres Children’s Garden and Farm. Payment options include EBT benefits. Each Share will include a list of produce for the week’s basket along with recipes, a free interactive cooking demonstration and tips on how to grow, eat and live better.
Free Interactive Cooking Classes will provide:
- Quick, easy kid-friendly recipes;
- Pantry-building skills and tips on how to stretch meals;
- Taste yummy food!
This Harvest Share CSA is for families living on a tight budget. Three forms of payment are accepted:
- EBT, Quest Card
- Credit Card
