Honey Bees a buzz at 21 Acres

21 Acres celebrated National Honey Bee Awareness Day recently with a big crowd of bee enthusiasts. Grant Carr, 21 Acres beekeeper, demonstrated and provided information on the life cycle and biology of the honey bee.

The question and answer session evolved into a round table discussion followed by a demonstration with several attendees who felt confident enough to hold frames of honey, with bees, from Hive #3.

A beekeeping class will be added to the 21 Acres course curriculum early next year. Check back for more details.

Special note: 21 Acres Honey, Hive #3, is available for purchase. 12 oz jar, $5. Jot us a note for purchase details.

The 21 Acres Apiary was established to provide the community with the opportunity to witness honey bees in action at their hives and to learn about the roles they play in the local environment. Organic beekeeping supports sustainable agriculture through the development of a naturally resistant honey bee population, culturing the survivors of the current epidemic in the total absence of chemical treatments.
