Purple Carrots – Kids Eat What They Grow

Our children come in a variety of sizes, shapes and colors and just like the fruit and vegetables we eat. “Growing things like purple carrots and white pumpkins encourage kids to explore the touch, smell, feel and taste of the uncommon, along with the standard variety vegetables,” says Mitzi Rants, who gardens with her two young daughters. “They’re fascinated by something new,” she added.

So, how do we get our kids to embrace new foods, new recipes, including that strange looking purple carrot? By providing an opportunity for creativity, adventure, excitement and hands-on learning. As strange as a purple carrot may seem, working the soil, planting the seed, weeding the row and harvesting, offers a down home reality to this weirdness.
