• Campaign Director joins 21 Acres
The Board of Directors of 21 Acres Center for Local Food and Sustainable Living recently appointed Holly B. Jensen,
CFRE, as Campaign Director. Jensen has been a leader in the nonprofit
sector for more than 25 years as a specialist in development and
fundraising. She has held the position of Executive Director of
Evergreen Healthcare Foundation, LifeNet Foundation and developed many
successful fund raising programs as Director of Development throughout
the Puget Sound area. She received her Bachelor's degree in Human
Services from Western Washington University and holds a professional
certification from the Association of Fund Raising Professionals. She
resides in Woodinville where she gardens and tends her flock of pet
sheep.
• Salmon SEEson 2008: Fall Salmon Viewing Opportunities
Spot the spawners this fall in the Lake Washington/Cedar/Sammamish Watershed. Fall is the right time of the year to view mature sockeye, chinook and coho salmon as they return to spawn in King County’s beautiful streams and rivers. Area viewing locations include Little Bear Creek in Woodinville; Sammamish River in Redmond and Bear Creek. A guide is available from King County with best places to watch salmon, and offers simple tips on how you can help protect water quality, improve salmon runs and restore salmon habitat. “Dirt: The Erosion of Civilization” recently received the John D. &
Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation “Genius” award. Montgomery was a
featured guest speaker at the 21 Acres Farm Dinner in 2007. Read more
• Day of Caring
More than a dozen volunteers participated in the 16th annual
Day of Caring recently. This year over 8,000 individuals signed up to
volunteer at 380 different sites throughout King County. Several
projects were undertaken throughout the day including general site and
trail maintenance; garden weeding and blackberry removal. Day of Caring
is just one way that United Way of King County works to connect

Upcoming Events
• Saturday, October 4; 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
An interactive event with activities for the whole family. Featuring guided tours and interaction with farmers and gardeners; demonstrations; kid’s activities; interpretive areas; and of course, food tastes fresh from the farm. Held in conjunction with annual month long Woodinville Harvest Celebration.
• Monday, October 6; Noon – 3:30 p.m.
2008 Farm Walk Series; Farmer-to Farmer: Passing on the Wisdom. This month’s featured farm, Styger Family Dairy Farm in Chehalis.
• Sunday, October 12, 10:30 a.m. - 2 p.m.
Tilth Producers Country Brunch –Celebrate the arrival of autumn, features local food creations with Washington grown, farm fresh food.
• Monday, October 20; 5:30 p.m.
Local Harvest Gala Dinner – Reception with a “Marketplace” of ideas and initiatives begins at 5:30pm. Featuring chef and local food advocate Tom Douglas at the Palace Ballroom.
