Initiation to Harvest Feast and Salish Ceremony

You are invited to our third annual Harvest Feast: honoring all our ancestors and bridging Native traditions with the local food movement. This cultural exchange and celebration will feed all who participate on many levels: Mentally, physically, emotionally and spiritually.

Preparations (10:00 am-12:30 pm) is the time that we get the food and the space together. Join the youth of Labateyah, the head cook for the ceremony and many others as we prepare food and decorate the space.

The Feeding the Spirits Ceremony (1:00 pm-3:00 pm) is a traditional Salish ceremony passed down in family lines throughout the generations. It is an honoring of the ancestors that includes placing plates of food on a ceremonial fire in honor of our past-aways. This ceremony has not taken place in this area of Seattle in many generations.

The Harvest Feast (3:00 pm-6:00 pm) Following the ceremony, we will have food, drinks, celebration and a giveaway put together by the youth of Labateyah, Salish Sea Transportation, Seattle Tilth, and other community partners.

You are invited to participate to your desired level. Come to all of the event, or just the pieces that really call to you.

In native tradition, please come with full hands. Participants often bring meaningful gifts, food, and money for sponsors and ceremony leaders. There is not set amount, it’s good to think about expressing your own gratitude for the event—In this way we all share in the spirit of giving and gratitude.
