2012 WSFMA Conference "Nourishing the Vibrant Soul of Farmers Markets"

Big Picture Washington State Farmers Market Association together with its local members supports and promotes vibrant and sustainable farmers markets in Washington State. Our vision is to have a thriving and sustainable farmers market within reach of every resident in Washington State. Washingtonians understand the importance of farmers markets in developing healthy communities and a sustainable local food system. WSFMA strives to be a national leader in the movement to increase access to local foods through farmers markets. Over 200 farmers market managers, staff, board members, farmers, volunteers and other professionals from across the state are expected to attend the 2012 Washington State Farmers Market Association Conference. Conference attendees' levels of experience vary from one of a seasoned veteran to that of a new volunteer or farmer. In workshops and through networking with colleagues and peers, conference attendees will gain the skills and knowledge to take back to their local program a strong voice for farmers markets.

Keynote Speaker Dru Montri, Director Dru Montri is the director of MIFMA. She has a background in horticulture receiving her B.S. from MSU and her M.S. from Penn State. In addition to her work with MIFMA, she is also pursuing a dual doctoral degree at MSU in Horticulture and Community, Agriculture, Recreation and Resource Studies. She and her husband also own and operate Ten Hens Farm in Bath, Michigan. Dru believes that the overlapping nature of these roles provides an opportunity to enhance her work in multiple areas. She has managed MIFMA since its inception and is committes to building an organization that supports and promotes farmers and farmers markets across the state.
