SUMMARY:Virtual Homesteading: Preserving Your Harvest through Drying
DESCRIPTION:Drying is an ancient and space-saving food storage technology. Why should you dry foods? How do you store herbs and kale chips for deliciousness all year long? Find out how NOT to dry raisins in your car—from first hand experience! Hawthorn Farm grows a year’s worth of produce\, and if they had to choose ONE technique for food storage\, dehydration would be it!

SUMMARY:Free Fix-it Fair with King County
DESCRIPTION:At this free outdoor event at 21 Acres (in and near the parking lot)\, King County’s skilled “fixers” will try to repair and mend your household items and clothing! \nThe format of this event\, and services provided\, are different than past King County repair events\, due to the pandemic. \nSign up in advance. One item per person for sign-ups. To try to space out the repair jobs\, you may be given a time to arrive. \nTo sign up for this Woodinville event\, or if you have any questions about this event or the repair events program\, contact repair events coordinator Tom Watson email Tom Watson via e-mail or at 206-477-4481. \nYou can also ask questions or start your sign-up on the Facebook event page external link . \nEven if you are signed up in advance\, it’s possible you may have to wait a while\, or that we won’t get to your item at all (since we never know how long each repair will take). As always\, we may not be able to fix an item. \nRepair customers should primarily stay in designated\, shaded waiting areas while their item is being worked on. \nEveryone must have a face mask with them\, so they could wear it in case the current mask guidance changes. Whether you are vaccinated or not fully vaccinated\, when going indoors for any reason\, (such as to use the restroom or visit the 21 Acres Farm Market)\, or outdoors in close contact with others\, you must wear a face mask. \nWe will work on small household and personal items (such as lamps\, vacuums and small kitchen equipment)\, as well as clothing and textiles. \nNo lengthy reconstructive repairs; no microwaves; no gas-powered equipment; no major clothing alterations; and no knife/tool sharpening. \nWe may decline to work on an item – in advance or at the event – depending on the item\, the type of repair needed\, or the fixers available. You may be asked to buy and bring specific parts needed for your repair. \nBig thanks to our “fixers” and crew! We always do our darnedest to try to help people\, as we conserve resources and reduce waste! Hope to see you there!

SUMMARY:Virtual Homesteading: Seed Starting--The Key to Veggie Success
DESCRIPTION:Want to make your garden worth your time and energy? Starting plants from seed is a huge part of that–a packet of hundreds of seeds can be a fraction of the cost of a six-pack of veggie starts. And most veggies don’t grow optimally from store-bought transplants! Come learn an experienced homesteader’s tips for starting plants\, from seed selection to growing media to Hawthorn Farm’s compost-heated greenhouse. In this lively interactive experience taught by Alexia Allen and Daniel Kirchhof\, hosted by 21 Acres\, we’ll become professional mud pie makers by exploring the soil block method that can eliminate annoying plastic pots and grow delicious lettuce\, onions\, tomatoes\, and more from seed. \nThis virtual and interactive hour is hosted live via Zoom. After registering\, you will receive the link and password.
