Your help supports local food systems by increasing farm productivity; building habitat for animals\, birds\, and insects; decreasing stormwater runoff; and storing carbon. \nDepending on the time of year\, volunteers can expect to learn about vernal wetlands\, crop planting and harvesting\, local pollinator species\, cover crops\, bioswales\, hugelkultur\, noxious weeds\, and more – all while engaging in collaborative hands-on activities. No prior farm experience required. All tools provided. \nWhat to know before you register: \nIf you are a new volunteer with 21 Acres\, please fill out a volunteer application before arriving \n-Activities include seeding\, planting\, weeding\, mulching\, wheelbarrowing\, and more.\n-Friends and family 13 years and older are welcome to join! DESCRIPTION:What do you dream of growing in your garden this year? Take your place in a movement to prevent seed species extinction by growing\, saving\, and sharing seeds. \nThis is our 10th year! The Sammamish Valley Seed Swap takes place during the entire month of March\, between 10:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. and is sponsored by the Sammamish Valley Grange here in Woodinville. Visit the alcove next to the 21 Acres Farm Market entrance to take seeds or leave seeds at this self-serve seed swap. \nHow does the seed swap work?\nBring Seeds \nBring your saved seeds\, either in their original commercial packaging or your own well-marked\, small envelope or container. Include the plant name\, year collected\, and planting and growing information. Seeds should be cleaned of hulls and debris. Seeds should be non-MO\, non-hybrid\, and no older than 3 years. Sort your donated seeds into the boxes provided that are labeled by plant category and species. Don’t have seeds? No problem! \nSwap for Seeds \nTake seeds that you need for your own garden. Bring recycled envelopes\, small jars or other little containers or bags\, along with a pen\, marker and tape to label your seeds with name\, variety and planting information. \nPlant Your Spring Garden \nHave fun with family\, friends and neighbors as you sow and tend to your spring garden. Come back often during March to see what community members have brought to the swap. \n\nTake Photos and Share \nWe’d love to see photos and hear about how your plants are growing. DESCRIPTION:Dry farming is a water-smart\, climate-adapted growing practice here in the PNW\, and in this era of rising temperatures and extended periods of drought due to climate change\, dry-farmed produce offers an important opportunity to bolster local food systems and our home gardens.   \nFarm Manager\, Ansley Roberts\, will lead a special farm tour focused on the dry farming trials here at 21 Acres\, including tomatoes\, squash\, and dry beans. You’ll learn how farmers grow produce varieties that need zero irrigation and taste absolutely delicious.  \nIn-person tours of the 21 Acres Farm are a great way to explore how agroecology\, soil health and land stewardship can build resilient local food economies and support direct climate action. Join us for Farm Steward Saturdays\, get your hands dirty\, and learn about regenerative farm practices at 21 Acres.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWork alongside knowledgeable 21 Acres staff on a variety of seasonal restoration and farm projects that build soil health and climate resilience. Your help supports local food systems by increasing farm productivity; building habitat for animals\, birds\, and insects; decreasing stormwater runoff; and storing carbon. \nDepending on the time of year\, volunteers can expect to learn about vernal wetlands\, crop planting and harvesting\, local pollinator species\, cover crops\, bioswales\, hugelkultur\, noxious weeds\, and more – all while engaging in collaborative hands-on activities. No prior farm experience required. All tools provided. \nWhat to know before you register: \nIf you are a new volunteer with 21 Acres\, please fill out a volunteer application before arriving \n-Activities include seeding\, planting\, weeding\, mulching\, wheelbarrowing\, and more.\n-Friends and family 13 years and older are welcome to join! Volunteers ages 13-15 need an adult participant volunteering with them\, and anyone under the age of 18 needs parent/guardian permission. \nBe prepared for your visit to the farm: \n-Please always wear closed-toe shoes for your safety.\n-Raincoats and rubber boots are advised on rainy days.\n-Remember to check the weather and dress accordingly.\n-Wear loose-fitting comfortable layers that you don’t mind getting dirty.\n-Long sleeves and long pants are recommended.\n-Bring a reusable water bottle and snacks to stay hydrated and fueled! \nAccessibility: \nWe are committed to making our volunteer events accessible for all attendees. DESCRIPTION:In case you missed this popular tour during Pollinator Fest at 21 Acres on May 31st\, now’s your chance! Led by members of 21 Acres’ dynamic volunteer group\, Pollinator Pathway NW\, this special tour offers an exciting opportunity to see PPNW’s beautiful demonstration pollinator garden\, the spiral garden\, and learn about the relationships between pollinators\, local food systems and the natural environment. Deepen your knowledge about the crucial role that all pollinators play in our ecosystem\, and gain insights into their plight in a world facing climate change\, while exploring ways to protect them for generations to come. \nYou will also learn about pollinator-friendly gardening and farming practices\, including how we prioritize the health and well-being of our pollinator friends. We’ll tour the farm and show off small and large pollinator interventions made on the 21 Acres campus while sharing tips on how you can support pollinators in your own backyard. \nBring your questions to this interactive hour! Join us in the lobby on the second floor of our building 10-15 minutes before the start of the tour.
