SUMMARY:"Off-Season Seed Reading" Book Club - 5 sessions
DESCRIPTION:Co-hosted by 21 Acres and the Woodinville Farmers Market\, this free\, five-session “Off-Season Seed Reading” series will be a fresh and easy take on the typical book club. \nMark your calendars for January 10\, 17\, 24\, 31 and February 7\, from 10 AM to noon in the 21 Acres Sustainability library\, when we’ll explore How Carrots Won the Trojan War: Curious (but True) Stories of Common Vegetables by Rebecca Rupp. \nOver five weeks\, we’ll start reading the book together aloud as a group\, and you can finish in your own time. No requirement to buy the book! Join us for this second annual “Off-Season Seed Reading” Book Club during the slower season for a lively conversation around local food\, farming and other related topics. \nAccording to Goodreads\, “How Carrots Won the Trojan War is a delightful collection of little-known stories about the origins\, legends\, and historical significance of 23 of the world’s most popular vegetables. Curious cooks\, gardeners\, and casual readers alike will be fascinated by these far-fetched tales of their favorite foods’ pasts. Readers will discover why Roman gladiators were massaged with onion juice before battle\, how celery contributed to Casanova’s conquests\, how peas almost poisoned General Washington\, and why some seventeenth-century turnips were considered degenerate.” \nCancellation policy: \nSafety is our first priority. If existing or anticipated weather conditions pose a moderate to high risk to visitors and staff\, we will make the decision to cancel this event. In the event of cancellation\, registered attendees will be informed by email as soon as possible. Please make sure that the email address you provide during registration is accurate. \nIf you are feeling sick\, we kindly ask that you respect the safety of yourself and others by not coming to campus. Send an email to generalinfo@21acres.org or call us at (425) 481-1500 if you are unable to attend.
