SUMMARY:Sammamish Valley 10th Annual Seed Swap
DESCRIPTION:What do you dream of growing in your garden this year? Take your place in a movement to prevent seed species extinction by growing\, saving\, and sharing seeds. \nThis is our 10th year! The Sammamish Valley Seed Swap takes place during the entire month of March\, between 10:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. and is sponsored by the Sammamish Valley Grange here in Woodinville. Visit the alcove next to the 21 Acres Farm Market entrance to take seeds or leave seeds at this self-serve seed swap. \nHow does the seed swap work?\nBring Seeds \nBring your saved seeds\, either in their original commercial packaging or your own well-marked\, small envelope or container. Include the plant name\, year collected\, and planting and growing information. Seeds should be cleaned of hulls and debris. Seeds should be non-MO\, non-hybrid\, and no older than 3 years. Sort your donated seeds into the boxes provided that are labeled by plant category and species. Don’t have seeds? No problem! \nSwap for Seeds \nTake seeds that you need for your own garden. Bring recycled envelopes\, small jars or other little containers or bags\, along with a pen\, marker and tape to label your seeds with name\, variety and planting information. \nPlant Your Spring Garden \nHave fun with family\, friends and neighbors as you sow and tend to your spring garden. Come back often during March to see what community members have brought to the swap. \n\nTake Photos and Share \nWe’d love to see photos and hear about how your plants are growing. If you post on social media\, please tag with #sammamishvalleyseedswap – you’ll be entered in a drawing to win a fun\, seedy prize!

SUMMARY:"Off-Season Seed Reading" Book Club - 5 sessions
DESCRIPTION:Co-hosted by 21 Acres and the Woodinville Farmers Market\, this free\, five-session “Off-Season Seed Reading” series will be a fresh and easy take on the typical book club. \nMark your calendars for January 10\, 17\, 24\, 31 and February 7\, from 10 AM to noon in the 21 Acres Sustainability library\, when we’ll explore How Carrots Won the Trojan War: Curious (but True) Stories of Common Vegetables by Rebecca Rupp. \nOver five weeks\, we’ll start reading the book together aloud as a group\, and you can finish in your own time. No requirement to buy the book! Join us for this second annual “Off-Season Seed Reading” Book Club during the slower season for a lively conversation around local food\, farming and other related topics. \nAccording to Goodreads\, “How Carrots Won the Trojan War is a delightful collection of little-known stories about the origins\, legends\, and historical significance of 23 of the world’s most popular vegetables. Curious cooks\, gardeners\, and casual readers alike will be fascinated by these far-fetched tales of their favorite foods’ pasts. Readers will discover why Roman gladiators were massaged with onion juice before battle\, how celery contributed to Casanova’s conquests\, how peas almost poisoned General Washington\, and why some seventeenth-century turnips were considered degenerate.” \nCancellation policy: \nSafety is our first priority. If existing or anticipated weather conditions pose a moderate to high risk to visitors and staff\, we will make the decision to cancel this event. In the event of cancellation\, registered attendees will be informed by email as soon as possible. Please make sure that the email address you provide during registration is accurate. \nIf you are feeling sick\, we kindly ask that you respect the safety of yourself and others by not coming to campus. Send an email to generalinfo@21acres.org or call us at (425) 481-1500 if you are unable to attend.

SUMMARY:"Off-Season Seed Reading" Book Club
DESCRIPTION:Co-hosted by 21 Acres and the Woodinville Farmers Market\, this four-session “Off-Season Seed Reading” series will be a fresh and easy take on the typical book club. \nOur inaugural title is Barbara Kingsolver’s Animal\, Vegetable\, Miracle: A Year of Food Life\, a memoir detailing her family’s journey away from the industrial-food pipeline to a rural life in which they vow to buy only food raised in their own neighborhood\, grow it themselves\, or learn to live without it.  \nOver four weeks\, we’ll start reading the book together aloud as a group\, and you can finish in your own time. Join us in the 21 Acres Sustainability library during the slower season for a lively conversation around local food\, farming and other related topics. \nFrom the book: “This is the story of a year in which we made every attempt to feed ourselves animals and vegetables whose provenance we really knew . . . and of how our family was changed by our first year of deliberately eating food produced from the same place where we worked\, went to school\, loved our neighbors\, drank the water\, and breathed the air.”  \nCancellation policy: \nSafety is our first priority.
No need to buy the book! Send an email to volunteer@21acres.org or call us at (425) 481-1500 if you are unable to attend.

SUMMARY:Spring Celebration - Sammamish Valley Alliance
DESCRIPTION:Step off the Sammamish River Trail and join the Sammamish Valley Alliance for their annual Spring Celebration in support of local farms and businesses. \nThe highlight for the day is the rededication of the Woodinville Grange Heritage Garden\, along with garden displays\, tours\, and chats. In conjunction with their partners\, the SVA strives to provide their friends and neighbors the knowledge and resources needed to discover where and how food is grown and the agricultural connection to our community. \nThe event is free\, and all ages are welcome to share in this beautiful gathering place! \nPlan to attend additional activities in Woodinville throughout the day on May 13th: Pollinator Fest! at 21 Acres\, the Woodinville Farmer’s Market\, the Woodinville Garden Club Plant Sale\, and Molbak’s Mother’s Day Weekend. For more information about our local farms and businesses\, visit the SVA website.
