SUMMARY:Sammamish Valley 10th Annual Seed Swap
DESCRIPTION:What do you dream of growing in your garden this year? Take your place in a movement to prevent seed species extinction by growing\, saving\, and sharing seeds. \nThis is our 10th year! The Sammamish Valley Seed Swap takes place during the entire month of March\, between 10:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. and is sponsored by the Sammamish Valley Grange here in Woodinville. Visit the alcove next to the 21 Acres Farm Market entrance to take seeds or leave seeds at this self-serve seed swap. \nHow does the seed swap work?\nBring Seeds \nBring your saved seeds\, either in their original commercial packaging or your own well-marked\, small envelope or container. Include the plant name\, year collected\, and planting and growing information. Seeds should be cleaned of hulls and debris. Seeds should be non-MO\, non-hybrid\, and no older than 3 years. Sort your donated seeds into the boxes provided that are labeled by plant category and species. Don’t have seeds? No problem! \nSwap for Seeds \nTake seeds that you need for your own garden. Bring recycled envelopes\, small jars or other little containers or bags\, along with a pen\, marker and tape to label your seeds with name\, variety and planting information. \nPlant Your Spring Garden \nHave fun with family\, friends and neighbors as you sow and tend to your spring garden. Come back often during March to see what community members have brought to the swap. \n\nTake Photos and Share \nWe’d love to see photos and hear about how your plants are growing. If you post on social media\, please tag with #sammamishvalleyseedswap – you’ll be entered in a drawing to win a fun\, seedy prize!

SUMMARY:Introducing Pollinator Pathway NW--A Sammamish Valley Grange Program
DESCRIPTION:This program is hosted by the Sammamish Valley Grange. \nThe new Pollinator Pathway NW will identify pollinator friendly habitats across the local Sammamish Valley and surrounding region. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe world is starting to pay attention to the decline in pollinators and the devastating consequences should this decline not be reversed. Recent good news in the legislature\, funding that has become available through the National Resource Conservation Service (NRCS)\, and other resources improve pollinator habitat. In partnership with the Sammamish Valley Grange\, 21 Acres and others\, a new program has been established to promote a local pollinator pathway. \nJoin the Sammamish Valley Grange community\, Wednesday\, March 2nd\, 7 p.m\, for a virtual presentation on the newly created Pollinator Pathway Northwest. \nThe goal of the new Pathway is to identify pollinator friendly habitats across the local Sammamish Valley and surrounding region by partnering with farmers\, gardeners\, businesses and the local community. The presentation\, led by Patricia Newkirk the coordinator of the volunteer-led pollinator garden project at 21 Acres\, will highlight details of the new program including: the implementation of a new interactive map of pollinator habitats in public and private spaces; the distribution of Mason bee nesting boxes to farmers\, home gardeners\, and community members; and\, educational opportunities on pollinator health and habitat expansion. \nThis free program will take place via Zoom and everyone is welcome to attend. Bring your questions and learn more on becoming a partner in the Pollinator Pathway NW\, how to volunteer\, and how to site your pollinator garden or plantings on the map! \nAbout Patricia Newkirk \nNewkirk spent her early professional years working for an international development organization in Africa\, Europe and the Middle East teaching strategic planning methods for community development. She has been involved with the intentional communities movement since the ‘80s and now lives at the Songaia Co-housing Community in Bothell where she was the garden manager for eight years. Becoming deeply interested in sustainable agriculture and permaculture\, she is currently designing and planting a demonstration “cultural planting” at Songaia\, a collaboration with NRCS. \nAbout Sammamish Valley Grange \nIn working to improve the rural nature of the Sammamish Valley\, the Grange shares its mission through educational outreach and neighborly engagement. Membership in the Grange is open to the public. For more information\, please e-mail sammamishvalleygrange286@gmail.com.
