SUMMARY:Nature Journaling at the Farm with Rebecca Jordan
DESCRIPTION:Join us once a month to sketch outdoors! \nCurious about the natural world? Join Becca\, ecology artist and writer\, to sketch at the 21 Acres farm. Learn to draw 2-3 different botanicals every month and stretch your scientific knowledge to explore questions about naturally-occurring phenomena such as pollination\, weird plants\, urban animals\, and more. Plus\, it’s just a beautiful place to spend your Thursday morning. \nPlease bring your own sketchbook and drawing materials. I will also bring extras just in case you happen to drop in. This class is suitable for all ages. Students under the age of 12 must have a ticketed adult accompanying them. \nThis class is offered at a sliding scale. Please pay what you are able so that I can continue to teach classes like this! \nThe farm is not ADA accessible. Paths are either unpaved or are mulched; if you have a traditional wheelchair or walker\, it’s recommended to choose a different class (email me for options). We will be walking across uneven ground that is mostly at no incline. \nRebecca Jordan (she/they) is a nature illustrator and ecology writer. She spent 4 years working at 21 Acres learning about Washington’s unique environment and writing about climate change. Now\, as an art teacher\, she loves to spark inspiration and curiosity about the natural world in her students. In her free time\, she goes to local parks to be inspired by nature and hangs out with her two cats. Learn more: carapaceillustration.com. \n

SUMMARY:Dry Farming Fair & Farm Walk
DESCRIPTION:Welcome to the first Dry Farming Fair at 21 Acres! You are invited to learn how farmers grow produce varieties that need zero irrigation and taste absolutely delicious. Dry farming is a water-smart\, climate-adapted growing practice here in the PNW\, and in this era of rising temperatures and extended periods of drought due to climate change\, dry-farmed produce offers an important opportunity to bolster local food systems and our home gardens. \nJoin the 21 Acres Farm Team on the front patio for a chance to taste and compare dry-farmed and irrigated produce grown on our own farm. Meet other water resilience advocates including King Conservation District and Washington Water Trust. Plus\, learn how our farmers select and save the dry-farmed tomato seeds to adapt them to our microclimate. At 1 pm\, Farm Manager\, Ansley Roberts\, will lead a special farm tour focused on the dry farming trials here at 21 Acres\, including tomatoes\, squash\, and dry beans. All activities are free and open to the public. \nThis event is part of the Washington Water Resilience Farm Tour Series in partnership with the Dry Farming Institute\, King Conservation District\, UW Farm\, Outback Farm\, Oxbow Farm\, American Farmland Trust\, and Oregon State University. For more farm-based learning on water resilient growing strategies\, check out the rest of the tour series here.

SUMMARY:Handmade Bookbinding at the Farm with Rebecca Jordan
DESCRIPTION:This workshop is part of a new 21 Acres Guest Artist Series. We are pleased to make our space available to a handful of local artists to teach their creative classes.  \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nCreate your own book in this workshop at 21 Acres in Woodinville! \nChoose your own cover papers and learn to bind an unlimited number of sheets into a notebook or sketchbook to gift to a friend or keep for yourself! For this class\, we’ll use a coptic stitch bind\, which has an open spine and allows your sketchbook creation to lay flat. Expand your creativity and take home your unique creation in this 3-hour workshop. \nAll materials are provided\, though you are welcome to bring your own scrapbooking paper for your covers. (If you don’t have any\, I have plenty). This class is recommended for students 12 and up. \nRebecca Jordan (she/him) is a speculative author and artist telling stories about the natural world and exploring alien ones. Becca has been passionate about books all her life. After working at bookstores\, writing books\, and even dipping his toes into a bookmaking business\, Becca now makes books for fun and loves practicing different binding techniques. RJ is a watercolor artist\, illustrator\, science writer\, and experimenter. In her free time she draws bugs\, pets cats\, and makes weird stuff. See more and connect @beccaquibbles. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

SUMMARY:Botanical Printing at the Farm with Rebecca Jordan
DESCRIPTION:Sample different printmaking techniques by creating unique art from seasonal botanicals! \nThis workshop is part of a new 21 Acres Guest Artist Series. We are pleased to make our space available to a handful of local artists to teach their creative classes.  \nNature’s toolkit at your fingertips! In this class\, you will learn different techniques for making botanical prints\, including monotype gel plate printing\, hammered printing\, leaf rubbings\, and more to create unique art from seasonal materials. \nNo matter what the season\, nature has bountiful materials—we will use seasonal botanicals collected each month. Catalogue what you find in your nature sketchbook\, or use botanical elements in your next mixed media piece. This fun\, hands-on class is suitable for beginning and intermediate printmakers. \nAll materials are provided for this class\, though you are welcome to bring your own botanicals to print. This class is recommended for students ages 12 and up. \nClick on the link to register directly with Rebecca. \nAbout your teacher: Rebecca Jordan (she/him) is a speculative author and artist telling stories about the natural world and exploring alien ones. RJ first got into printmaking through block printing and was immediately hooked. As a gardener and climate writer\, she dug through leaves and flowers in her back yard to see what else she could print. She now uses botanical prints regularly in her mixed media pieces. RJ is a watercolor artist\, illustrator\, science writer\, and experimenter. In her free time she draws bugs\, pets cats\, and makes weird stuff. See more and connect @beccaquibbles.
