Calling all aspiring chefs! Back by popular demand, our Cultivating Cooks Youth Culinary Series will kick off its 2017 season in March (see specific dates below). We’re excited to welcome back Chef Andrea Roelen and introduce Chef Lisa Crawford as the fearless leaders of this inspiring program.
The series is broken down into three sessions for two age groups, 8-12 year olds and 12-16 year olds. We welcome you to sign up for the entire series at one time, or purchase an individual session that best suits your budding chef’s culinary needs. Please note, students must complete either 101 or 201 in order to advance to 301. The breakdown of topics covered in each session is as describe below.
Please note, the Cultivating Cooks series is very popular and this 201 series is already full. If you’re interested in receiving advance notice when we offer this program again, please send an email to: generalinfo@21acres.org. Thank you!

The four-week 201 course will build on the foundation taught in 101 and explore additional cooking techniques such as baking, steaming, sautéing, stir frying, roasting, and poaching to enhance wonderful flavor profiles in food using delicious local whole foods as our ingredients. Students will enhance their culinary confidence by designing a spontaneous meal in an Iron Chef style challenge.

8-12 year olds, Wednesday May 3-24, 5:30-8:00pm
In the 301 week-long intensive students will be introduced to aspects of environmental nutrition including energy efficient alternative cooking methods, how to source locally grown ingredients and why it’s important to do so, learn various methods of traditional food preservation, and enhance their culinary confidence.
12-16 year olds, July 25-28, 5:30-8:00pm
8-12 year olds, August 8-11, 5:30-8:00pm
Throughout the program students will work in pairs and teams as they gain culinary experience and develop confidence in their cooking abilities. Chef Andrea and Chef Lisa will provide education as well as motivation so that the young chefs feel inspired to continue their culinary education as they go forth to cook for family and friends. Whether your kiddo or teen is a first time cook or already has some culinary experience and wants to enhance their skills, they will take home a wealth of knowledge that will be used for years to come. Cooking is an experience, not just a meal, and we look forward to sharing this culinary experience with your family.
