    • The Sammamish Valley Alliance and 21 Acres are hosting the Seventh Annual Seed Swap Saturday, March 4, through Saturday, March 25, between 10:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m.  Come to the alcove outside the 21 Acres Farm Market between 10 and 4 each day to take seeds or leave seeds at this self-serve seed swap.

    This event is free for all gardeners, small-scale farmers and anyone interested in seeds, even if you don’t have spare seeds to offer – there will be plenty to share. 

    Bring your seeds to share, swap for seeds you need, plant your spring garden! You can learn more about why saving and sharing seeds is both fun and important to biodiversity in this excellent blog post. 

    Bring Your Seeds to Share

    Bring your saved seeds either in their original commercial packaging or your own well-marked container (no taller than 4-7/8”). Include the plant name, year collected, and planting and growing information. Seeds should be cleaned of hulls and debris, non-GMO, non-hybrid, and not older than 3 years. Sort your donated seeds into the labeled boxes by plant category and species.

    Get Ready to Swap

    Seeds are often donated in full envelopes or otherwise large quantities. Plan to take only the portion that you intend to plant and bring your own containers (i.e. envelopes that you recycle, little jars or pill bottles, or baggies). Bring a pen or marker and paper or tape to label your seeds with name and any planting and growing information from the original container.

    Have fun with your family, friends, and neighbors as you plan and sow your spring garden. Remember to take pictures and share your garden stories with us!
