Celebrate Veteran’s Day — Flag Ceremony
Celebrate Veteran’s Day — Flag Ceremony
- date: November 9, 2017
- time: 11:00 am - 1:00 pm
21 Acres enjoys a year-round relationship with the Veteran’s Conservation Corps and on November 10th from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. we will share an opportunity to properly retire your “Old Glories” in celebration of Veteran’s Day. According to the United States Flag Code, when a flag is worn and no longer a fitting emblem of display, it must be disposed of in a very particular, dignified manner and only a few named groups are allowed to do so.
We invite our community to join our Veterans and 21 Acres staff at the flag pole for a short talk on the American flag at 11 a.m. Bring your worn flag and it will be ceremoniously disposed of (burned and ashes buried). Tammura George, Navy Vet and coordinator for this program requests you transport your flag carefully, ensuring it does not touch the ground and hopes you will share the flag’s history – where was it flown? Was it flown for a person or a reason?
Please join us on the 10th or simply drop off your flag in advance of the day and you are invited to walk our farm any day the gates are open to enjoy our “Veteran’s Half Acre.” For more information on the Veteran’s programs at 21 Acres please email TammuraLL@gmail.com or message The Veterans Garden at 21 Acres on their Facebook page.
