Saturday Work Party
Saturday Work Party
- date: March 11, 2017
- time: 10:00 am - 2:30 pm
There’s no better way to stay warm in winter than spending time with good company doing good work!
Help restore and shape the landscape of 21 Acres and join staff member Nick Jennison at our weekly Saturday work parties. Tasks include wetlands restoration, plant propagation, garden and food forest maintenance, compost making, food harvesting, data tracking, and much more. There’s always lots to do and lots to learn!
Work parties occur every Saturday
Whatever you choose, the 21 Acres Market will be open 10 am -4 pm for you to grab lunch from the deli or pick up some produce and fresh bread on your way out. Plus, as a volunteer, you get a 10% discount!
Most days will be filled with some sort of physical activity and take place outdoors, rain or shine, so bring weather appropriate clothing and shoes.
This Saturday’s work party will be dedicated to removal of the himalayan blackberry and other invasive’s like reed canary grass. We’ll learn about and work together on the proper removal of himalayan blackberry, reed canary, curly dock, and creeping thistle.
Requirements: Dress for the weather. We will be working with blackberries which have large thorns on uneven terrain, so be conscious of your clothing options. Closed toe shoes required. If you have thick gloves, bring them, although there will be gloves available onsite. Additionally, if you have any sort of cutting tools capable of going through 1.5” diameter stalks, feel free to bring them as well. Machetes welcome!
Bring your own lunch or enjoy a 10% discount in the Market Deli.
