Cultivating Cooks Youth Class: Italian Pasta Party!

  • This class is the perfect place for a cook with little experience experience in the kitchen but a taste for Italian cuisine. And by Italian cuisine, we mean pasta! We’ll learn how to make fresh ricotta ravioli all by hand and a simple Italian dessert! Both recipes highlight seasonal foods and fundamental cooking skills needed by any Italian home chef. All ingredients are locally sourced by the 21 Acres Center. This class is intended for kids and teens ages 7-16.

    Class prices include a meal. Accommodations for dietary restrictions upon request.

    Difficulty Level: 1 fork; open to participants of all skill levels.

    Pasta Making
         – Pasta dough
         – Key pasta flours
         – Rolling and cutting
         – Cooking fresh pasta
         – Preparing pasta sauces
    Pastries
         – Oven safety
         – Introduction to Italian pastry

    Instructors: Alice Carli & Erica Weisman of Seattle Cucina Cooking School

    Co-founders of the Seattle Cucina Cooking School, Alice and Erica, teach in local schools, community centers and after-school programs in the greater Seattle Area. They lead creative, hands-on classes to improve students’ nutrition, how they relate to their families and community, and how they participate in sustainable food systems. They joined 21 Acres’ culinary program in 2018.

    Alice received her public health degree from the University of Washington and is interested in the intersection of cooking, nutrition, and childhood development. She’s been an avid cook for the past 10 years, especially for friends and family!

    Until recently, Erica worked as a professional cook, most recently at the James Beard Award-nominated restaurant, Canlis. She also managed a food cooperative and loves cooking with fellow devotees to bring the greater Seattle community delicious, wholesome food.
