Did you know it is estimated that by 2025 there will be one pound of floating plastic garbage in the ocean for every three pounds of fish? Plastic pollution is one of the most important environmental problems we face today, which is why the Earth Day Network chose ‘Ending Plastic Pollution’ as the subject of their 2018 Earth Day campaign.
Currently, only fifteen percent of plastic waste is recycled in our state. If you want to know what happens to plastic waste in the state of Washington and what is being done to reduce plastic pollution in our region, mark your calendar for June 26th and attend 21 Acres’ next Tuesdays @ 21, “Our Plastic PNW with Zero Waste Washington.”
In this information-packed presentation Heather Trim, Executive Director of Zero Waste Washington, will discuss why plastics are a problem and how to reduce our consumption and impact future production! Doors open at 6:30 p.m. for networking, followed by the presentation from 7:00-8:00 p.m.
Zero Waste Washington is a local nonprofit dedicated to reducing plastic pollution in our waterways and compost, promoting producer responsibility to address difficult-to-handle waste, and educating the public about ways we can reuse and recycle all-ready produced plastics in order to limit contamination.
Tuesdays @ 21 is a free, monthly community presentation series at 2 Acres, providing education and an opportunity for networking and dialogue on a variety of sustainability topics.
