There are two veteran organizations partnering with 21 Acres this year and we want to share both of their stories:

Growing Veterans will be introduced to the farm by helping out with a large wetland restoration and native planting project. The wetland work party will take place on March 1 starting at noon; this is just one project happening through Growing Veterans and we are looking forward to working on others in the coming months.  There will be a position opening up for a Growing Veterans 21 Acres Veterans Outpost Coordinator through The Mission Continues fellowship to oversee other veteran volunteers and to work on some special projects 20 hours/week starting later this year.

Veterans Conservation Corp (VCC) leases a ½ acre plot on the 21 Acres farm and invites veterans and community members to participate in work parties with them and to help grow food, build relationships and alleviate Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and other war-related strains through gardening.  The ½ acre plot began being cultivated in 2007 and 21 Acres is glad to be a host site for bringing people together for meaningful and therapeutic opportunities.

Details for the upcoming event:  Join us Saturday, March 1 at noon. We’ll be working on wetlands restoration and placing 300 native plants. Anyone and everyone is welcome — make friends, work hard and have fun. Bring a shovel and gloves if you have them and prepare to get dirty. Sign up ahead of time and let us know you’re coming! http://tinyurl.com/21AcresOutpost
