Labor Day usually feels like the end of summer as children prepare to return to school. But here at 21 Acres, summer continues to be abundantly present in the bushels of organic sun-ripened tomatoes, zucchini, sweet corn, greens and herbs harvested from our farm and available in our market.
Don’t worry, you also still have time to enjoy juicy donut peaches, yellow peaches, blackberries and strawberries from Tonnamakers’ Family Farm and Garden Treasures, also available in our market.
Planning a Labor Day barbeque? We have freshly baked whole wheat slider rolls to accompany your grilled burgers. Our fresh melon salsa from Chef Emily and the team in the 21 Acres Kitchen is a tasty topping for grilled chicken or fish. (Just fyi, if you haven’t already heard the news, Chef Emily was just recognized nationally in the publication, Best Chefs America.) If your Labor Day activities don’t include cooking, take advantage of our ready-to-go items. A few of this week’s specials include: a BLT sandwich with house cured bacon, Thai basil marinated cucumbers, lettuce and spicy mayonnaise; and a VLT consisting of a homemade veggie burger of mushrooms, eggplant and garlic in panko breadcrumbs with Thai basil marinated cucumbers, lettuce and spicy mayo. (The Food Hub staff enjoyed the VLT yesterday and said it had perfect texture and flavor.)
And, if you really want to extend your summer, the proper way to celebrate a holiday weekend is with dessert. We have freshly baked blackberry buckle and a rustic cherry galette. Top either of these fruity desserts with ice cream made on our premises. We have three flavors: vanilla, caramel and caramelized melon.
If possible, we are happy to accommodate advance orders. Please give us 48 hours notice and send an email to: market@21acres.org. Enjoy your weekend!
